Sept 13th ARIRANG (TIFF, AMC# 2, Young and Dundas 24)

Kim, Ki-Duk has been for quite some time my favourite Korean director. His movies are so interesting and thought provoking and always entertaining. They are also usually completely out of the ordinary. ARIRANG certain lives up to that reputation. Even though I was really hating the beginning, the movie quickly showed me the brilliance of this director. Whether a documentary or a drama, or a mixture of both, it is a realistic and truthful look into the mind of director. Bitter, resentful and brutally honest we see Mr Kim deal with issues that are essentially a part of his soul, an unforgettable piece of who he is as a person. This movie is definitely not for everyone, but if you love movies and are even involved with making movies, I feel this is one you should watch. Whether or not everything in the movie is true or not, remains to be true.I went to watch this movie without knowing what it was about, only knowing that it was directed by Kim Ki-Duk, and again he did not disappoint me. I just wish he was more skilled at editing.
