2 30 pm WORLD's BEST SHORTS (shorts program)
Can see this name was just pick out of a hat somewhere, out of the seven shorts in the program only a couple were worth mentioning and three were repeated from previous short programs.
OH MY GOD is a very funny short about three young girls who already know they are lesbians but have a lot to learn about orgasms.
LOOP PLANES is about two young people who meet at an amusement park and as they say the fun only begins there and so do the surprises.
I DON"T WANT TO GO BACK ALONE is one that was repeated, about a young blind boy who ends up seeing a lot more then he thought he would with his two friends in school.
5 pm QUEER VIDEO MENTORING PROJECT. (shorts program)
This project has gone through changes over the year, from helping young new film makers to helping first time film makers of all ages to its current form of experienced film makers helping first time film makers. Great to see some of the mentors being people who have gone through the program in the previous years.
HOW TO STOP A REVOLUTION about a mixed ethnic relationship and the pitfalls that really we all have to deal with. Includes some great music from a young Toronto Musician, who is also the director.
MY FATHER, MARIA CALLAS AND ME is a maybe much too revealing short about a woman and her father and their mutual love for the opera singer and also about the other things they have in common.
REFLECTIONS FROM A PARK BENCH is a short doc about Toronto's city parks and the enjoyment and peace to be found there. Do not usually like narration but this one is done very well, even if a tiny bit too long.
IM-PASS is an exploratory work about how young trans people are treated and reacted to.Brings up some very good questions and emotions that am sure could lead to further projects.
WORKING IT OUT explored young, gay outlook towards jobs and careers. Doesn't really have too much to do with their sexuality but is insightful and well made.
7 15pm BLACK FIELDS
A Greek historical movie that deals with nuns and captured slave soldiers in the Ottoman Army. What it doesn't deal with is anything gay. No matter what people think, just because two men have sex does not mean they are gay. It could be just the circumstances. This soldier seems to be horny from never being allowed to have sex that he would have sex with just about anyone who is available. Not only is this not a gay movie, it is also very slow and very drawn out, with it taking a long time for very little to happen. The movie is however, beautiful shot and has some amazing scenery.
10pm ABSENT
One thing that is absent form this movie is a good pace and action. Its supposed to be a thriller so why was I not thrilled? Should really have expected this since the director's previous movie PLAN B was slow paced as well with little happening in it, though there was more happening then in ABSENT. Seems like this was a short movie stretched to fill a longer time slot.
