Feb 6th and 5Th CINEMA KABUKI

Kabuki is a form of Japanese theatre that dates back to 1603 in Japan, a time when Tokugawa Ieyasu First united the entire country. It is filled with dancing and singing and also a lot of comedy in certain plays.
Here in Toronto (and in Vancouver) The Japan Foundation sponsors CINEMA KABUKI, a series of live Kabuki performances that were filmed in Tokyo and Kyoto and shown on the movie screen at Scotiabank Theatre.
Seeing Kabuki this way is perfect for a western audience not only because of the English subtittles but also because of the explanation of the symbolism and meanings behind the dances and songs.
This year I watched RAKUDA: PARTY WITH A DEAD MAN, HERON MAIDEN and TRIPLE LION DANCE.
The only problems were that these performances are short and they cost more this year to view them, other then that all three were very enjoyable and a great way to learn about another culture and their forms of entertainment.
