GUNLESS (DVD) Was never really a fan of DUE SOUTH, always thought it made more fun of Canadians and Mounties then it praised them.
However, PASSENCHDALE was quite enjoyable, especially Joe Dinicol's character. The movie was a real homage to the strength and
character of the Canadians who built this amazing country.
GUNLESS falls in between these two, with some jokes that are true to Canadian sensibilities and others that not even Americans would
find funny. It does come in handy if you are having trouble falling asleep.
AFTER DARK FILM FESTIVAL 2010 BLACK DEATH. Aug 19th
Sean Bean plays a bishop's emissary looking to clean up a village making sacrifices to keep the plaque away.
The film moves well and has a very realistic look to it, right down the the grotesque masks of the dead collectors
I enjoyed this last film of this years AFTER DARK FILM FESTIVAL but was not as enjoyable a film as expected.
The short before the feature was THE OTHER SIDE, exploring the horror of the first world war. An interesting well made French Canadian film but not fully appropriate for a Horror, Sci-fi and Fantasy film festival. We all know MAN is the biggest monster around, just
the kind of monster behaviour we were looking for at this festival.
CEMETERY JUNCTION. Ricky Gervais does it again with a funny true to human nature comedy about a young man wanting more out of life then
his little village and the dead end job in a factory. The conversations amongst his family are the funniest. Is it supposed to be the encouragement
to improve or the realization of how things are and always will be?
