TIFF Midnight Madness
Was supposed to start at 11:59 on the 8th, but of course with the speeches and taking so long to get organized THE RAID (SERBUAN MAUT) started after midnight.
On Jan 6th 2011, I came across an Indonesia martial arts film Called MERANTAU, that not only showcased the ability of a young actor/martial arts named Iko Uwais, but also the Indonesian martial art of Silat. That review can be found on this blog.
Tonight, my first movie at TIFF 2011 was the Midnight Madness showing of THE RAID (SERBUAN MAUT), Uwais' second feature film. This time he is a cop sent on a raid of an apartment building control by a very paranoid gang leader.A lot of shooting, slashing, and kicking ensues to give a very entertaining martial arts film. Was great to see all the action and see the Stars Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim as well as director Gareth Evans. If you like martial arts films you will love this action packed, no punches pulled, all out slug fest. The cool thing about seeing a movie at a film festival like TIFF, is the swag they sometimes gave away, like the two flak jackets that were worn by the two stars in the movie.
