Last night at TIFF I saw a rare Indonesian Martial Arts movie and this morning I attended my second screening at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, which was the world premiere of a gay Vietnamese movie. LOST IN PARADISE tells the story of Khoi (Luong,Vinh Khoa) who goes to Saigon to find a better life for himself. The trouble and the better life both start when he meets Lam (Manh Hai), who not only introduces him to gay love but also to the world of gay prostitutes. Surprising it is a very touching love story with of course lots of drama. Luong, who is a pop star in Vietnam does the sound track as well. There is also a side story about a mentally challenged man, a duck and a female prostitute. I enjoyed this movie, maybe because I am biased, but overall because it is a sweet, well told story, and a glimpse into a part of the world we have never gotten to see before.
These are short reviews of the movies I watch. Each posting will have the movie title and the date watched as well as which theatre I saw it at or whether it was watched on DVD. I will only be telling you if I enjoyed the movie or not and a bit about the look and feel of the movie, not about what happens. For that you will have to watch the movie.
