Sept 25th MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

Billed as the world's largest film festival, since over the course of a week THE MANHATTAN
SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
is shown in over 200 cities, spanning 6 continents. With 598 entries and parred down to the 10 finalists that the audience votes on, some of the movies were a little
surprisingly not up to par. The did have a very cool festival logo before each short with
the colours and flag of the country the movie was from and the words of the logo in that
countries language. Still do not know why there was an intermission though with only 10
short movies and with all the movies to choose from, why were there two from the United
States?

1. INCIDENT BY THE BANK Interestingly done, but what are you trying to show and why is it
so out of focus?

2. DIK Extremely fun and realistically done from Australia. My choice and prediction for the
winner.

3. MAK Good and important story but not enough shown or developed to fully reach a global
audience.

4. I LOVE LUCI Quirky, funny and entertaining. Wonderful to hear real Scottish accents for
a change.

5. THE LEGEND OF BEAVER DAM The Canadian entry, described as an Evil Dead like Musical but with kids. Very nicely done.

6. SEXTING Julies Stiles does run off at the mouth but in a watchable way. Unfortunately
it is predictable and even for short film you kinda get tired of looking at just her face.

7. THE FOREST Another one with no point or reason behind it, unless you want to show the
bad side of relatively ordinary people.

8. A DOCTOR'S JOB This one was very good and well made. My second choice for the winner but slightly less of a chance then Dik.

9. DAVID AND GOLIATH A simple movie but with a big message. The fullness of which is not
realized till you watch the entire thing.

10. MARTYR FRIDAY Just watching the news does not give you the entire picture of world
events. Movies like this, showing the point of view of people involved certainly add to our
understanding.
