http://www.insideout.ca/21/schedule/index.php SCHEDULE of MOVIES
2 30pm eCUPID
The same director had a movie called "IS IT JUST ME?" in a previous festival and I found that one way funnier then ECUPID. The problem was the stiff acting and the poor sound quality. There wasn't many funny lines or situations as well. Fell very flat for me.
The lead actor looks and sounds like a younger version of Nathan Fillion, from the Television show FIREFLY.
5 pm BLACK BOXES (shorts Program)
Why all the shorts about Black people had to be put together into one program I do know but out of the 5 shorts there were a couple that were very entertaining and worth mentioning.
CHANGE is a well made short about a young, Black student and his hopes for a changing world. Would have liked to seen more on Prop 8 and the gay part of the story.
AND I AM ME is a doc about a lesbian couple and their children, especially a young boy from Ethiopia. The truth does come out of the mouth of babes and in this case, with a few funny lines as well.
FREE MAN is a short that deals with legalities of when a partner dies and the survivor has no legal rights, even if they had a civil ceremony marriage. Yes this is no longer an issue in Canada because gay marriage is legal here, however, I think it is necessary for us to be supportive and encouraging of our American cousins who are still fighting that fight. This festival is about gay people around the world and sometimes we forget just how different things can be, even for people who are as close to us as a shared border.
9 15pm WORKING STIFFS (shorts program)
Seven shorts about gay men and the jobs they choose and are sometimes chosen for them, because of circumstance.
MASALA MAN is sweet short movie about a store owner and a young boy whose lives cross and make an impact on each other. Has a good message and humour as well, how can you go wrong.
THE QUEEN is about young Korean man, working in his family's dry cleaning shop but who obviously has higher aspirations and dreams. Two bad both worlds don't fit together.
GO GO REJECT is funny and sweet and a lot of fun. And dammit you don't need to have a great gym body to be nice. Don't need to be skinny either.
