Repertoire theatres are a great way to see movies at a cheaper price. Most popular, Hollywood movies are shown in theatres like this a few months after they are at mainstream cinemas. These are also venues where you can see non mainstream movies as well as foreign movies, that you can only see elsewhere on DVD.
When I saw that KURONEKO was playing at the Bloor Cinema, I jumped at the chance to see this restored, 1968 samurai ghost story. The Japanese film industry at this time was very diverse, even if not as prolific as the decades before. This movie shows on screen more like a theatrical production but still makes
for a very interesting and engaging movie. Not the usual Samurai movie you would expect, but still a great night out for only $11.00, and that includes a membership that gives discounts.
