Nov 1st VISITS: HUNGRY GHOSTS ANTHOLOGY (DVD)

A Malaysian 2004 collection of four ghost stories that take place during the Hungry Ghost Festival. The Chinese Hungry Ghost festival, celebrated during the 7th month of the lunar calendar, is like Europe's old All Hallows' Eve and similar to today's Halloween, except instead of getting dressed up the Chinese believe the gates of hell are thrown open at this time to let the Hungry Ghosts find food on earth.
The stories are;

"1413" Sort of a suicide/mystery story when two young school girls are found after they jumped together off a roof. There is no real suspense and the layout of the story doesn't really work. The close ups are meant to make it more dramatic but don't. Only the very ending has any merit, guess they forgot
you have to build up to it.

"Waiting for them" A lot better made but slows way down after the beginning. Not scary at all even at the ending, which have lost interest by then anyways.

"Nodding Scoop" A ritual used to get ghosts to tell you the future is the focus of a amateurs film. A much better story and way better made then the first two but still needs a better ending and more suspense. Not even the ghost parts that are done well are really scary.

"Anybody Home" This story is a lot better but again not really scary. There needs to be more suspense build up before the ending. At least the saved the best written one for the end.

Instead of watching VISITS: HUNGRY GHOST ANTHOLOGY, check out 4BIA (PHOBIA) or DORM, they are much better Asian ghost stories. Surprisingly both are Thai ghost movies.
