Oct 23rd SALO O LE 120 GIORNATE DI SODOMA (SALO, OR 120 DAYS OF SODOM) Introduced by JOHN WATERS

Recently SALO was considered one of the 100 essential movies of cinema by TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival). I totally disagree. It’s based on a work by the Marquis de Sade , who basically was extremely perverted and some believe quite crazy, not to mention, by his own definition, completely moral less. The movie is best described as SHOCK WITH NO AWE. It is nothing but a series of perversions and degradations, all with a sexual context thrown together to achieve nothing but shocking the audience to revulsion. Others will argue that the movie is symbolism for Director Pier Paolo Pasolini's relationship and feelings for his mother. I feel that theory is what this movie is full of. CRAP! This is like the sexual version of so many American horror movies out today. Using sex and perversion and fetishes where those horror movies use blood and guts. Seems they both have the goal of getting as many audience members as they can to turn their head away.
Apparently this movie was banned almost everywhere when it came out in 1975, although it has the look as if it was made a lot earlier then that. The only reason I went was because my best friend invited me and I wanted to see John Waters in person. He is a director with a lot of fame and well known for his quirky and often times offensive and disgusting movies. Personally I do not agree with his way of thinking about movies or life and do so even less now that I heard him speak in person. He also basically only has one movie that I have enjoyed; HAIRSPRAY. Worse part was that he gave away scenes and even lines from the movie in his introduction. Are you trying to be like a film critic now, John Waters? They give away everything too.
