Oct 20th BOY IMAGINATIVE FILLM FESTIVAL

A movie about a young Maori boy, named Boy, and his desires to be reacquainted with his father and see Michael Jackson live. The two are connected.
The movie comes across to me as rich people making fun of poor people, and coming from a poor background this was not enjoyable.
Yet the movie does have some funny moments and a quite a few sad ones. In fact I think the funny moments or what the audience saw as funny took away from the real underlying emotions and the story. The point was not gotten across.

BOY

On a side note, I normally enjoy The ImagiNATIVE film festival but last night was seriously disappointed. The festival seems to have fallen into the trap of other festivals that have become big and popular. They are forgetting about the audience. At the Bloor Cinema last night about 50% of the main floor was reserved for so called VIPs and Sponsors. The real audience had to sit in the balconies and anyone who has been up there knows its a long way to the screen and even worse are the totally uncomfortable small seats.
