Sept 14th TIFF SANDCASTLE

The story is of a young Singaporean Chinese man dealing with not knowing his father, his grandmother's illness and his mother who seems to care more about her boyfriend then him. Throw in his hormones and the beautiful girl next door and you have an interesting movie.
Intersperse all this with a commentary on social memory and the ethnic dynamics of Singapore and you have Boo Junfeng's first feature film.
The 26 year old Singaporean shot SANDCASTLE in 18 days and with great acting from newcomer Joshua Tan and TV veteran Ng Jing Jing the movie is interesting if you can get past the normal slow pace of an Asian "slice of life film".
The one problem I had was that it seemed to be lacking a little in substance. It left me for wanting more, maybe a stronger statement or more resolution.
